Focus Article - Proposed Changes to NFPA 654 Combustible Dust Standard
A Temporary Interim Amendment (TIA) was recently submitted to the NFPA Technical Committee on Handling and Conveying of Dusts, Vapors and Gases. This submittal addresses four specific issues in the 2006 edition of NFPA 654 Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids: (1) determination of where a deflagration hazard exists in a room or building; (2) determination of where an explosion hazard exists inside of equipment (3) modification of Section 6.2.3 - Use of Separation and (4) thermal exposure protection for personnel exposed to a deflagration hazard.
